Why “DOCERE” ?

In searching for a name that would convey our message, we looked to the origins of medicine, attempting to define the heart of medicine, before it was affected by the healthcare industry. In gazing back at the core of what founded the principles of medicine and the virtues of “old time” physicians, we came across the word that clarifies our mission. “Docere” which is the Latin origin of the word “doctor” appropriately means “to teach.” Even the earliest physicians understood that education and prevention were the foundation of health and wellness. What could be more appropriate for a practice that is attempting to go back and deliver the original style of medicine than to name itself after the origin of the word “doctor.”

Jeffrey Viscomi M.D. received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton. He then went on to graduate from Wright State University School of Medicine in the top 10% of his class. Following residency at the Cleveland Clinic’s Fairview Hospital, Dr. Viscomi started his Family Medicine practice in Strongsville, Ohio where he has been practicing for over ten years. His reputation for providing excellent healthcare helped soar his initial practice to include over 6000 patients.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Viscomi felt a need for change in his industry and is currently one of only a few hundred physicians in the country that offers a limited membership-style practice. He founded this exclusive medical practice, Dōcerē Physicians, along with a sister membership company, “Your” Family Physician in 2004. Combined these two companies work together to provide his patients a focus on preventative health and preserving youthfulness in a climate of unprecedented service. His practice has been featured in several local papers and on WKYC Channel 3 News for its superior services. Crain’s Cleveland Business refers to his style of care as “a patient’s dream.” Another local paper describes Dr. Viscomi and his practice as “an oasis of hope amidst a national healthcare crisis and notes family doctors around the country are watching his every move.” When you schedule an appointment, you are the only patient in his office with standard appointment times of at least thirty minutes. His patients also receive complete “lifestyle” physicals which last 2 hours and include dietary and exercise treatment plans. He utilizes an electronic medical record system that interfaces directly with a reference laboratory and allows him to discuss the results with his patients within 24 hours. His patients all have his personal cell phone number and can call him 24/7 with any urgency.
